Hi Everyone!

What a month it has been here at SES. Firstly, the weather has been - on the whole - a complete washout! However, this hasn’t stopped us from having an almighty busy month with lots going on.

Very early on in June, we sponsored a local BE Horse Trials for the first time - Brand Hall. I thought it was a fabulous event to get involved with, ran of course by evergreen John and Janet Plant, who also do a superb job at Weston Park. The event, still relatively new to the BE calendar, has a really great feel to it, and despite the rain, provided a great weekend of action. The international classes gave a sense of occasion and the setting couldn’t be more beautiful. We very much look forward to supporting the event again in 2013 but would rather be attending the prize-giving in shorts and shades, as opposed to a Barbour and brolley!

At home, it’s been a story of endless days and sleepless nights. Foaling has dictated some very obscure working hours but the results certainly make it worthwhile. Our two coloured foals have been enjoying the fresh air and seem to be growing rapidly by the day. I am extremely excited that we have two stunning coloured foals with ‘Primitive Rising’ lines – a very unusual occurrence.  With all of the rain, both of them have started eventing careers early, having to become accustomed to water.

The young horses have been going well on the whole and have been working nicely on the flat and over fences. I am particularly excited about Dylan, who is a real brave and talented chap. Watch this space when he gets out and about...!

It has been a month of business housework, and we have started working with Mark Hayward of Paparazzi PR. We are working together on areas of the business such as social media and newsletter management etc. Our first newsletter is the July issue so make sure you check that out.

The most exciting (and long awaited!!!) event of June was the arrival of our new lorry!! After getting over the initial shock of just how many gears it appears to have, I can now just about manoeuvre it, and am looking forward to getting out and about in it – well, once I have negotiated the deepest lanes of Shropshire!

I have been lucky to meet and work with some really great people in the equine industry, and I am delighted that SVS and SES are going to be working with a couple of real ‘experts’ in future. Emma Dainty and Ian Hughes (Physio and farrier respectively) will be regulars, running weekly clinics and consultations. How fabulous that we have been able to get involved with such world class people to offer even more to our clients.

On the teaching side of things, I have been really busy with lots of lessons and PC clinics. It’s been a great month for training, with many of the events being rained off. Many of my pupils have been sharpening up those all important changes, working on their related’s and brushing up those corners!

Meeting with Russell Guire from Centaur Biomechanics was an eye opener, and we are lucky to be having Russell back for rider analysis clinics (watch this space!). I have to say that following mine and Nikki’s analysis session, we both suffered for a couple of days! Shoulders and wrist pain – the obvious result of having ridden wrongly for so long! On a serious note, the changes made during the session created some instant results in the horses way of going. So interesting to visibly see and feel how our riding errors affect the horse.

Well, I am now off to work on recruiting two new members of staff, so HR head is well and truly on! Until next time, hope you all manage to get out and about, and I’ll be back soon!

Have a great July!
